Facilities Maintenance Technician

This is the re-advertisement of 182248. Previous applicants may not apply.

The Ashmolean Museum is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Technician.

About the role
The Ashmolean Museum has been described as “unquestionably the finest university museum in the world”. The Museum is a part of the Oxford University Museums Group and houses the University’s collections of art and archaeology. The Facilities Team ensure that buildings are running efficiently, are proactively maintained and remain fit for purpose.

This is a chance to join a small but very busy team. Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out day-to-day FM tasks such as compliance checks, responding to building emergencies, contractor liaison, and carrying out pre-planned and reactive maintenance. The work you carry out will be a combination of what the Facilities Maintenance Manager assigns to you and requests that come in through the Facilities Helpdesk.

This is a full-time permanent position, working 36.5 hours per week.

Please note that this post is subject to checks necessary for the successful post holder to have a Known Consignor status. You will therefore be required to provide employment and/or education history going back for a full 5 years in your application, as well as a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

About You
You will be joining the team at an exciting time when we are expanding our remit to actively support the museum's internal projects. There is an opportunity to learn about museum-specific speciality lighting and the repair and maintenance of our specialist display cases.

You must have a good mixed knowledge of plumbing, carpentry and some understanding of mechanical plant.

You will often be required to work independently, using IT tablets for work allocation; therefore, self-motivation and good IT skills are essential.

This is a customer-facing role that involves liaising directly with colleagues both orally and in a written format via IT tablets.

You will be working alongside the Central Services team, and on occasions, you must be able to work flexibly by assisting them with their duties.

• An excellent contributory pension scheme
• 38 days of annual leave

We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at [email protected].

How to apply
You will be required to upload a CV and a supporting evidence form using the attached template as part of your online application. Your supporting evidence form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered.

We aim to provide a supportive working environment and are happy to discuss training and professional development opportunities. The Chair of this recruitment panel will be Paul Knowles, Facilities Maintenance Manager, who can be contacted with enquiries relating to the role ([email protected]). General queries about the recruitment and application process should be directed to the Recruitment team within our Human Resources department ([email protected]).

Only applications received online by 12.00 midday (GMT) on Wednesday 4 February 2026 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place during week commencing 16 February 2026.

*An automatic annual increment each year will be paid up to (and not including) the discretionary range within the University of Oxford’s grade 4 salary scale.
