Our people are at the heart of National Museums Liverpool. Colleagues from across the organisation make a difference every day, creating memorable experiences for everyone and challenging expectations. We pride ourselves on being a place for everyone, but we are always aiming higher, aspiring to be representative of the communities we serve. Through our people, we are building a culture which embeds trust, respect and inclusion and an organisation in which people are engaged and empowered to enable National Museums Liverpool to evolve. You could be just the right person to join us.
We currently have the post of Finds Liaison Assistant (Portable Antiquities Scheme) available.
Reporting to the Finds Liaison Officer (Portable Antiquities Scheme) within the Museum of Liverpool Curatorial team, and working in partnership with the British Museum, you will help deliver the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme across Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside (website: https://finds.org.uk/).
In this role, you will support the Finds Liaison Officer by identifying finds made by members of the public and record them on a national database. You will also assist with implementing the Treasure Act 1996 and contribute to achieving the aims of the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The position involves engaging with a wide range of people, including members of the public and attending events as required.
To succeed, you will bring a demonstrable interest and knowledge of archaeological objects and British archaeology, along with an understanding of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act 1996. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will confidently engage with the public and maintain positive relationships with local museums and heritage groups.
