Loans Coordinator

About the role:

This is a truly exciting opportunity for an organised and passionate museum and cultural sector professional. The British Museum is proud to be one of the world’s most visited museums. In 2024, its home in Camden received 6.5 million visitors, more than any other museum in the UK. Against this backdrop, the British Museum is now undergoing an extraordinary transformation, including the recent historic loan agreement for the Bayeux Tapestry to come to the British Museum for display.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the Museum’s loan projects and reactive loans, whilst maintaining the highest standard in Museum practice and risk management.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Respond to loan requests from external borrowers while maintaining records on the Loans database
• Coordinate object loans from the collections of the British Museum to exhibitions in the UK and worldwide
• Deliver logistical arrangements connects with loan projects in compliance with licenses and legal requirements
• Financial administration such as processing purchase orders, invoices and budget monitoring

About you:

The successful candidate will be highly organised with excellent communication skills and able to work within a variety of different teams. They will also be able to evidence:

• Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of the museum and cultural sector, preferably with experience of exhibitions and/or loans administration
• Experience with financial administration
