Digitalisation Project Manager

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Digitalisation Project Manager who can turn ideas into impactful change. You will lead and manage digitalisation and automation projects that form the foundations of our digital transformation programme. If you have skills at investigating new technologies and taking them to deployment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

You’ll bring proven experience of delivering digital projects using formal methodologies. You will also have a strong understanding of technologies such as AI, automation, business intelligence, or systems integration. You will be proactive, detail-driven, and thrive on creative problem-solving. Your ability to lead teams, manage suppliers, and engage with stakeholders at all levels will be just as important as your technical knowledge.

From exploring and evaluating new technologies to overseeing their deployment, you’ll guide projects through every stage of their lifecycle, ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation, inspiring collaboration and securing buy-in for transformative digital solutions that enhance both our operational efficiency and our visitors’ experience.

The difference you’ll make

As part of our enthusiastic and dedicated IT team you will report directly to our Chief Technology Officer. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

- Leading and managing digitalisation projects (e.g. AI, automation), ensuring their timely and successful execution.
- Developing and championing digital value propositions that enhance operational efficiency and/or improve the visitor experience.
- Proactively identifying and achieving buy-in for major digitalisation and technology improvements which contribute to the digital transformation programme across the galleries from both a back-office and visitor experience. Working closely with the project teams and stakeholders at various levels across the organisation.
- Leading and managing IT projects through all stages of their lifecycle from ideation to implementation in line with agreed programme and project management standards of National Galleries of Scotland.
- Providing day-to-day management and leadership to the project teams to ensure delivery of deliverables/solutions.
-Working with stakeholders to scope solutions in line with their requirements, key strategies and the requirements of overall technical architecture of the organisation.
- Liaising with and managing suppliers in the delivery of project objectives and services.

Who we are looking for

To succeed in this role, you’ll need the following range of knowledge, skills, and experience:

- Educated to degree level, or equivalent in information technology or related discipline, or equivalent qualification and practical experience.
- A flexible, supportive and collaborative working style, with strong leadership and negotiation skills.
- Proven experience and knowledge of innovation with a variety digital technology (for example but not restricted to AI, automation, business intelligence, integration).
- Solid project management skills with the ability to deliver digital projects using formal methodologies such as Prince2 and Agile.
- Skilled in managing project teams in a collaborative manner.
- Experience of successfully liaising with stakeholders of all levels, balancing priorities and managing collaborative working.
- Good written and verbal communications skills ranging from report writing to presentations to face-to-face meetings.
- A flexible approach with the ability to initiate, self-manage and work on several interdependent projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivated, proactive and demonstrable willingness to ‘go the extra mile.’
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and the capacity to quality-check own work and that of others.
- Ability to learn to new skills, new technologies, and methods of working.

It would also be great if you have:

- Experience in public sector procurement and supplier/contractor liaison or management.
