Explainer

Explainer

Do you have experience working in a public facing role and confidence in performing and presenting content such as shows, demonstrations and workshops? Would you like to inspire futures and reveal the wonder of science to diverse audiences?

About us

At the Science Museum Group STEM engagement is at the heart of what we do. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online.

We are now recruiting for Explainers to join on permanent contracts. There are full-time shifts working 37.5 hours per week and part-time weekend shifts working 15 hours per week available, all based at the Science Museum in London.

About the role

As an Explainer you will be an energetic and confident presenter who will be the face of delivering a world renowned and varied public programme on the floor of a busy, ambitious museum.

We are proud that our Explainer team is diverse, talented and collaborative - as part of this team you will bring science and our galleries to life for all our visitors. You will perform a range of science shows and demonstrations, deliver workshops and provide facilitation in our interactive galleries for schools, families, adults and community groups.

You will reveal the wonder of science and ignite curiosity by telling authentic stories about science and our collection through performance and facilitation, supporting the learning of children and adults, and opening up STEM career opportunities to young people.

Your role is to engage visitors with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and help them learn through the shows, demonstrations and workshops you'll be delivering, and your facilitation of exhibits and our collections.

About you

Joining us, you will have experience and confidence in performing and presenting content such as shows, demonstrations and workshops. You will have experience of working in a public facing role using good customer service and communication skills.

Crucially, you will have experience of working with and communicating to a broad range of audiences, especially children. You will also be able to work well within a team, with good interpersonal skills.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
