Are you a good communicator with an understanding of audience research methodologies? Do you want to manage audience research to evaluate the impact of our SMG Academy training courses, programmes and resources?

About Us

The Science Museum Group Academy develop and deliver high quality, inspirational, research-informed training courses, both online and face to face - to teachers, community groups, volunteers, museum and STEM practitioners. The Academy courses are designed to share our creative, hands-on approach to engage a wide range of audiences with STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), underpinned by our science capital approach and wider educational research.

We are now recruiting for a Senior Audience Researcher (SMG Academy) based at the Science Museum in London with hybrid working also included. This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week on a fixed-term contract until December 2025. We are also open to the possibility of the role being done on a part-time basis working a minimum of 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

About the role

As Senior Audience Researcher, you will manage audience research to evaluate the impact of the SMG Academy's training courses, programmes, and resources, overseeing research with teachers, school groups and museum practitioners across the UK.

You will also develop and deliver science capital research-informed and evidenced-based training focused on audience research methods and reflective practice and you will support the dissemination of the Science Museum Group's science capital approach through other communication channels, including blogs, events, and talks.

You will manage an Audience Researcher and help them write methodologies, provide feedback and guidance, and ensure they are confident in their work.

About you

Joining us you will have an understanding of audience research methodologies, including data collection, analysis and interpretation. You will have a proactive approach and be able to manage research and projects effectively.

Crucially, you will be a good communicator, able to deliver clear and engaging presentations, coupled with the interpersonal skills required to work well in collaboration with others and to successfully influence colleagues at all levels.
