About us

We are currently recruiting for a Collections Information Advisor to join the Science Museum Group (SMG) on a permanent, full-time basis, working 35 hours per week.

This role can be based at any of our sites: Science Museum in London, Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, National Railway Museum in York, National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham or the National Collections Centre in Wroughton, Swindon.

About the role

As Collections Information Advisor, you will play a pivotal role maintaining and improving collections information to ensure its effective use for collections management and for engagement with our online audiences.

You will train a range of museum professionals in the use of the Collections Management System and developing their expertise on collection management procedures. You will help ensure that SMG's collections management meets sector standards and best practice. Alongside the training you will maintain the suite of collection management procedures and guides. You will also run the annual collections spot-check audit programme ensuring accountability of the collections and ensuring collection management procedures are being followed.

This role involves extensive engagement with collections staff and you will have the opportunity to develop our museum professionals to make the most out of collections information.

About you

Joining us, you will have an understanding of collections management procedures and cataloguing standards. You will be able to show a good understanding of the principles of data quality in addition to an understanding of collections audit processes.

Crucially, you will be an effective communicator with the ability to explain potentially complex processes in a clear and concise way. You will have experience training or supporting others in relation to Collection Management Systems and processes.
