The Natural History Museum’s Informatics Division use digital technologies, platforms, and devices to unlock answers to the big issues facing humanity and the planet. The group is responsible for delivering the museum’s digital science innovation, and leads several international initiatives to digitise natural history collections and exploit the associated data.
In order to deliver our digital science strategy we have a created two new positions for Technical Leads. Working closely together as part of the Informatics Division, the roles will each provide technical leadership of one core informatics systems - the Data Portal (http://data.nhm.ac.uk); or Virtual Research Environments (http://scratchpads.eu). Additionally, the Technical Leads will work with our data architects, data managers and Technical Solutions department in defining and delivering the Museum’s innovative digital science systems and programmes. The successful candidates will operate under the guidance of the Head of Informatics, share management responsibility for a team of three additional software engineers and have strategic oversight of the technology decisions associated with the the Museum’s open data science systems. Maintaining awareness of emerging technologies and developing the skills of other engineers / developers, the Technical Leads will be passionate about creating the best possible user experience, including UX design and performance optimisation. The posts also include opportunities for travel as part of international programmes of activity, as well as partial remote working.
