About the role
The Treasure Registrar plays a key role in supporting the administration of finds reported under the Treasure Act 1996. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will focus on the early stages of the Treasure process, ensuring cases are accurately recorded, tracked, and progressed efficiently.
This is a varied position that combines detailed administrative work with stakeholder engagement across the heritage sector. You will handle a high volume of cases (approximately 1,500-1,600 per year), helping to ensure the smooth running of processes that can involve multiple parties and up to 30 stages per case.
About you
You are an organised and detail-oriented administrator with strong communication skills and the ability to manage complex information. You are comfortable working with databases and digital systems, and able to keep accurate records while managing competing priorities.
You will bring a proactive approach to communication, confidently liaising with a wide range of stakeholders including internal colleagues, museum professionals, archaeologists, coroners, and members of the public. Your ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be key to your success. An interest in British archaeology or heritage would be advantageous, as would familiarity with the types of artefacts considered Treasure.
Key areas of responsibility
* Registering and maintaining accurate records of Treasure finds, including daily updates to databases and case files
* Liaising with Finds Liaison Officers, curators, archaeologists, and coroners to gather information and progress cases
* Monitoring and chasing progress on reports and ensuring cases move through the Treasure process in a timely manner
* Managing correspondence with finders, landowners, and other stakeholders, including responding to enquiries via email, phone, and post
* Supporting coroners by ensuring they are informed and appropriately advised under the Treasure Act
* Assisting with the preparation and administration of Treasure Valuation Committee meetings
* Facilitating the movement, storage, and access to Treasure items within the Museum
* Contributing to the smooth running of the wider Treasure team and supporting departmental activities as required
