About us

Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. Each of these sites has a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts people at the core of its success.

The Role

Be at the forefront of an exciting transformation at one of the world's most iconic historic and scientific landmarks. Working within the Astronomy team, you’ll play a key role in shaping First Light - an ambitious capital project set to reinvent Royal Observatory Greenwich for a new generation - and the future of the department by championing new and more collaborative ways of working.

Key elements of your role will involve coordinating events for Heritage Fund activities, line managing freelancers and volunteers, and contributing to scheduling staff delivery duties and ensuring all necessary delivery, co-ordination, and back-up roles are fulfilled for events and activities.

Further core responsibilities include liaising with external stakeholders, providing administrative support to Senior Managers in the Astronomy team, collecting and recording audience numbers associated with Heritage Fund programming, and raising purchase orders, accepting deliveries, processing invoices and updating accrual reports.

We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience in a customer service environment, particularly within a museum, science centre, or heritage site. You’ll be extremely organised, with experience of coordinating and hosting a range of public engagement activities and enthusiasm for STEAM and Heritage. Excellent communication skills and extensive administration experience, including financial duties, are also essential for this role.

This is a full-time, fixed term role until March 2029 in Band 5 - Management and Proficient Specialists. Core hours of work will be 36, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend shifts on a roster and rest days either side. Due to the nature of the work flexibility is required in meeting the demands of the role.

Salary: £36,900 per annum

We encourage you to read the full job description/person specification before applying for this role.

Interviews are pencilled in for Wednesday 11 March.
