Are you an experienced Executive Assistant looking to play a pivotal role at the heart of a national museum?
Do you enjoy working closely with senior leaders, staying one step ahead, and helping a busy organisation run smoothly? This is an opportunity to join the National Science and Media Museum as Executive Assistant to the Museum Director, supporting strategic delivery at one of the UK's most significant cultural institutions.
About us
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is one of the world's leading science and culture organisations, inspiring millions of visitors each year. The Group includes the Science Museum in London, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, the National Railway Museum in York, Locomotion in Shildon, and the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford.
The National Science and Media Museum tells the story of photography, film, television, sound and gaming technologies, and plays a key role in Bradford's cultural life and national profile. Working here means being part of a collaborative, purpose-driven organization with a clear mission and meaningful public impact.
About the role
As Executive Assistant to the Director of the National Science and Media Museum, you will play a central role in supporting the effective leadership and day-to-day running of the museum.
Working closely with the Director and Senior Management Team, you will provide high-level executive support, helping to manage complex diaries, coordinate meetings and visits, meeting set-up and minute taking, and ensure priorities are planned and delivered effectively. This is a varied and trusted role that requires sound judgement, discretion, and the confidence to work with senior internal and external stakeholders.
You will also support governance activity, oversee key administrative and financial processes, and act as a key point of contact for the Director's office, representing the museum in a professional and organised manner.
This role is based at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford and offers hybrid working. The appointed person will be expected to work at least three days per week on-site, typically Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with some flexibility to vary days where needed to support operational requirements such as events or VIP visits.
About you
You will have experience working as an Executive Assistant, PA or in a similar senior administrative role supporting a Director or senior leader. You are highly organised, motivated, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a busy environment.
You bring effective communication skills and are adept at working with a wide range of stakeholders, exercising tact, discretion and good judgement at all times. You enjoy being part of a collaborative team, take pride in keeping things running smoothly, and are motivated by contributing to the success of a mission-led organisation.
Strong IT skills are essential, particularly in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and you will be comfortable working in a hybrid environment using shared digital systems. Experience of working in the museum, cultural, heritage or academic sectors, and familiarity with CRM systems, would be welcomed but are not essential.
Not sure if you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
