Position Type: Part Time
Closing Date: Thursday 07 August 2025 at 12 noon
Since April 2025 NMDC has been hosted at National Museums Liverpool. We currently have the post of NMDC Executive Assistant available.
The National Museum Directors’ Council (NMDC) represents the leaders of the UK’s national collections and major regional museums. We act as an advocate on behalf of our members and their collective priorities and work to shape museum and cultural policy agendas, as well as providing our membership with a forum for discussion and an opportunity to share information and work collaboratively. The current Chair of the Council is Laura Pye, Director of National Museums Liverpool. A team of three staff handle the day-to-day business and are employed by the institution of the current Chair.
As NMDC Executive Assistant you will provide efficient and effective executive and administrative support to the NMDC staff team and Chair and ensure the smooth running of the NMDC office. Reporting to the Policy and Projects Manager, you will support delivery of NMDC meetings and events, external communications, projects and members’ services. You will be in regular contact with colleagues across NMDC member institutions and related organisations and will build up an extensive knowledge of current UK museum and cultural sector issues.
You will have experience of organising meetings and the ability to manage electronic diaries, websites, contact databases and financial administration systems. You will have excellent IT and communication skills, good attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.
This role is for 22.2 hours per week and the days and hours worked can be flexible, within office hours of 9–6pm Monday to Friday. It is a hybrid role, with the option to be either home-based, office-based at National Museums Liverpool or to hot desk at museums in London (or a combination of these). Some travel will be required to Liverpool and London, as well as occasional travel to other NMDC members’ sites around the UK.
NMDC moves with the organisation’s Chair, so this role may move to be hosted by another museum in 2029, although hybrid working arrangements can continue.
