Marketing Manager

We’re looking for a creative and experienced Marketing Manager to lead our busy marketing team. You’ll develop and oversee our marketing strategy including brand development, campaigns and digital marketing. You will work to build the profile of The National Archives across a wide range of audiences.

You’ll have experience of leading a team to work across multiple marketing and advertising channels and will have an excellent understanding of digital content and platforms. You’ll also be an excellent communicator, with experience of using your skills to persuade, influence and negotiate a range of stakeholders and suppliers.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.

Essential criteria:

- Marketing experience: extensive experience of multi-channel marketing and brand strategy, at scale, in a high-profile organisation. Proven creativity and business-minded planning for marketing campaigns.
- Digital marketing experience: extensive experience of digital advertising, email marketing, social media engagement and engaging with digital-first audiences
- Communications skills: ability to set standards for communications for a variety of audiences; briefing effectively and responding at pace. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to assimilate complex information and clearly communicate the relevant points to a range of stakeholders.
- Engagement and relationship building: demonstrable ability to nurture and leverage high level external networks. Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
- Team management skills: experience of managing staff and resources in a busy marketing team.
- Planning and strategy: proven ability to organise and direct a range of projects; ability to respond effectively to unexpected developments and tight deadlines. Ability to horizon scan and take the long view; provide leadership and strategic direction.
- Influence and judgement: strong persuasion and negotiating skills; diplomacy, discretion and sound judgement. Calm when under pressure; comfortable dealing with contentious topics, dispute and significant reputational risk.

- Experience/knowledge of the cultural sector
- Experience of opportunities presented by digital technologies
- Well-developed knowledge and networks within government and/or cultural sector
