Production Coordinator

At the Science Museum Group STEM engagement is at the heart of what we do. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online. We are now recruiting for a Production Coordinator working within the Learning team based at the National Railway Museum in York.

As a Production Coordinator you will provide the production support needed to deliver live and digital events, activities and programmes to a range of museum audiences on and off site. Reporting to Learning Producers and working alongside Senior Explainers, you will ensure that Science Museum Group learning activities and events for schools, families, adults and community groups are planned and delivered smoothly, successfully and safely.

In a typical day you’ll be coordinating and delivering exciting events and programmes to wow our audiences and helping with the day-to-day supervision of our fantastic team of ‘Explainers’. Our key deliverable is fun, accessible learning experiences for our visitors.
To help you do that, you’ll liaise with a range of exciting and dynamic people both inside and outside SMG to ensure our programmes are relevant, innovative, and of the highest standard, alongside excellent training and upskilling opportunities to help you excel.

You will be trained in our science capital-informed approach and will understand how to apply this in practice. You will gain insights into the operations of a large visitor facing team. Your focus will be on administration, planning and production, but where needed you will also be able to support delivery and work directly with museum visitors.

Joining us you will have experience of researching, planning and supporting learning events, activities or programmes for diverse audiences, while possessing excellent customer service and communication skills. Lastly, you will also have a flexible and proactive approach to work, in addition to existing experience of utilising strong administrative, organisational and time-management skills to provide support for activities for a broad and diverse range of audiences.

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; BUPA medical and dental care; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks.

‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.

We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
