Learning Producer (Schools and Families)
At the Science Museum Group STEM engagement is at the heart of what we do. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online. We are now recruiting for a Learning Producer for Schools and Families, based at the National Railway Museum in York.
In a typical day, you’ll be creating exciting events and programmes to wow our audiences, helping to manage and train our fantastic team of ‘Explainers’ so they can deliver your content to visitors and contributing to discussions on our upcoming museum-wide projects. Our key deliverable is fun, accessible learning experiences for our visitors.
To help you do that, you’ll liaise with a range of exciting and dynamic people both inside and outside SMG to create learning programmes for our core school and family audiences alongside excellent training and upskilling opportunities to help you excel.
You will have previous experience of planning, researching and delivering high-quality, engaging and accessible activities, events, programmes or learning content to a range of diverse audiences. You will use this experience to support the Schools and Families Manager in creating the museum’s offer for these audiences, which will include programmes in galleries and exhibitions, outreach and commercial experiences.
Joining us you will be motivated by a strong desire to help ignite curiosity around STEM by assisting discovery through active participation and social interaction. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of translating complex information into simple, compelling content. You will possess a creative, collaborative and flexible approach to working. This will enable you to help our team to influence and shape people’s engagement with, and attitudes towards, science. You will be able to understand the potential needs of diverse audiences, using audience research and evaluation to inform your work.
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; BUPA medical and dental care; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks.
‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.
We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
