If so, we are looking for you to join our Workshop and Traction team based across the National Railway Museum, York and Locomotion, Shildon! The National Railway Museum is the largest Railway Museum in the world, housing the premier collection of stock and historically significant steam engines, trains and locomotives.
As Rail Operations Coordinator, you will support the co-ordination and safe delivery of our commercial rail experiences. Passenger rides are an important part of our offer, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of seeing history and engineering in action. You will lead a team of staff and volunteers to ensure locomotive rides operate as and when required. Critical to this is ensuring that the locomotives run reliably, safely and within budget.
You will also be assisting to ensure that all operational vehicles are in a good state of repair, carrying out inspections of vehicles and track, undertaking necessary work to ensure they remain operational. You will also make recommendation, and assist with strategic moves of rail vehicles across sites. This will also include carrying out inspections on rail vehicles that are on loan to other museums or organisations.

Joining us, you will have good knowledge of heritage railway operations and understanding of the health and safety legislation relevant to railway operations. Having built some experience working in a rail operations environment, you work well as a part of a team, and have great communication skills that enable you to coordinate and motivate a team of staff and volunteers
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks.
