Schools Learning Officer, maternity cover
The Horniman Museum and Gardens connects us all with global cultures and the natural environment, encouraging us to shape a positive future for the world we all share. We are inclusive, inspiring, generous and fun. We’ve been open since Victorian times, when Frederick John Horniman first opened his house and extraordinary collection of objects to visitors. Since then, our collection has grown tenfold and includes collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as an acclaimed aquarium, a Butterfly House, natural history collection and 16 acres of Gardens- including a Nature Trail. The Learning Team cares for the Museum’s Handling Collection of around 3,500 objects, which allows pupils to have hands on, meaningful interactions with incredible objects from around the world.
The Schools Learning Team delivers learner-led, object-based and outdoor learning sessions for school pupils from Early Years to Key Stage 5, and to home education groups, welcoming up to 46,000 school learners a year (pre-COVID). As a Schools Learning Officer, you will be integral to the delivery of our vision, and translating it into inspiring learning activities, and lead on the redevelopment of our Natural World and outdoor learning offers.
You will be experienced in delivering high-quality, hands-on learning experiences to pupils of all ages, and have an excellent track record of developing, delivering and evaluating workshops and resources in a classroom or non-formal setting. Your knowledge of schools’ needs will be complemented by experience delivering accessible, inspiring outdoor workshops for schools. A motivated and creative communicator, you will be able to build positive collaborative relationships with colleagues and schools, and love the challenge of organising and delivering diverse programmes.
Please note that the post requires an Enhanced DBS check.
The closing date for completed applications is 10am Wednesday 2nd February. Interviews will be held on Friday 11th February 2021. The successful candidate must be able to start this role before or on Monday 14th March.
The Horniman is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
