Back End Web Developer

To design, develop, and maintain innovative and robust technical solutions for the British Library’s websites and Intranet and oversee and operate the Library’s tools and processes for web search, search engine optimisation, accessibility standards and site usage monitoring.

Key areas of responsibility

• Using Sitecore, ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, XML, SQL, jQuery, JSON, MVC, Solr, and other technologies to deliver new system features and functionality that will enhance the user experience and improve access to content on the Library’s website and Intranet.
• Participating in the development, testing, and implementation of new web resources and features on the Library’s Sitecore Content Management System, including supporting internal users.
• Maintaining existing web technical solutions operating on a variety of platforms.
• Proactively configuring and developing the web search facilities available to external and internal Library customers.
• Pursuing and promoting best practice in applying technical metadata standards to the Library’s website and Intranet.
• Pursuing and promoting best practice in Search Engine Optimisation and accessibility standards to enhance and promote the Library’s externally facing web content.
• Configuring and operating the Library’s web analytics tools, ensuring the results are accurate and fully understood; working with colleagues to run reports, analyse the results, and develop proposals for improvements to the Library’s website and Intranet.
• Continuously improving personal awareness of web developments and personal portfolio of web technical skills.

The job-holder will be expected to achieve results through maintaining constructive working relationships with colleagues in the Library’s web services team, staff in other departments and directorates, and representatives of external suppliers.
