Learning Producer (Schools & Families)

At the Science Museum Group STEM engagement is at the heart of what we do. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online. We are now recruiting for a Learning Producer for Schools and Families, based at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester.

In a typical day, you’ll be creating exciting events and programmes to wow our audiences, overseeing the operation of our inspiring school and public programme in our galleries and dedicated learning spaces, and beyond our walls, helping to manage and train our fantastic team, and contributing to discussions on upcoming museum-wide projects. Our key deliverable is engaging, high-quality and accessible learning experiences for our visitors.

To help you do that, you’ll work closely with your fellow Producers, liaise with a range of people both inside and outside the Museum and have access to excellent training and upskilling opportunities to help you excel.

You will have previous experience of planning, researching and delivering high-quality, engaging and accessible activities, events, programmes or learning content to a range of diverse audiences, including schools and family groups. You will use this experience to support the Schools and Families Manager in creating the museum’s offer for these audiences, which will include programmes in galleries and exhibitions, outreach and commercial experiences.

Joining us you will be motivated by a strong desire to help ignite curiosity around STEM by assisting discovery through active participation and social interaction. You will possess a creative, collaborative and flexible approach to working. This will enable you to help our team to influence and shape people’s engagement with, and attitudes towards, science. You will be able to understand the potential needs of diverse audiences, using audience research and evaluation to inform your work.

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; BUPA medical and dental care; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks.

‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.

We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
