Head of Operations

The University of Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum (OBGA) has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic administrator to manage and coordinate operations across this complex twin-site department, consisting of the Botanic Garden in Oxford and the Harcourt Arboretum at Nuneham Courtenay.

The post of Head of Operations is central to the effective management and leadership of the department as well as its day-to-day running, bridging strategic and operational needs. This is an exciting leadership role, in which you will use your experience in running operations to help shape the strategic direction of a growing and developing department, taking the lead on financial, HR, and operational matters. You will be a multi-tasker, meticulously organised and efficient, and deploy your excellent judgement skills and initiative to bring about operational excellence in a busy and fast-moving environment.

The Head of Operations is a pivotal member of the OBGA senior management team and will usually be based at the Botanic Garden but will work at the Arboretum when required, usually one day per week. The Head of Operations reports to the Director (Head of Department) on a daily basis with a formal and professional reporting line to the GLAM (Gardens, Libraries and Museums) Registrar.

To support you in delivering your objectives you will lead an administrative team with the current configuration of: Front of House Coordinator (Grade 5, 0.6 FTE), Events Coordinator (Grade 5, 0.5 FTE), Friends’ Administrator (Grade 4, 0.6 FTE) and three Administrative Officers (Grade 4, 2FTE). You will be expected to review and flex these resources to ensure delivery of the departmental objectives. For an informal discussion about the role, contact the Director, Simon Hiscock.

This is a full-time permanent position. The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Tuesday 30th November 2021. Interviews are expected to be held in the week commencing 13th December 2021.
