The main purpose of this role is to manage the development and delivery of a number of the Museum’s portfolio of International Touring Exhibitions to overseas hosts.

The post-holder may also be required to project manage the delivery of other of the Museum’s international advisory and/or training services.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

•Manage the development of certain of the Museum’s international touring exhibitions. This will involve: •discussing content and narrative with curators and keepers and ensuring that the content is developed in a way which will meet the requirements of the hosts while also respecting the reputation of the Museum;
•managing the delivery of exhibition materials such as initial overviews, PowerPoint presentations, written narratives, object lists, object labels catalogue essays and entries, panel text and images;
•liaising with loans administrators to ensure the timely production of transport and insurance estimates, and to ensure that other tasks such as photography, conservation work, storage and packing are being appropriately scheduled and carried out on time;
•coordinating the inputs of colleagues within the Museum and, where relevant, external partners to ensure the timely, efficient and organised delivery of the project to the host;
•managing the budget for the delivery of the exhibition under the supervision of a line manager and ensuring delivery of each project within budget;
•taking responsibility for identifying, managing and reporting on the risks associated with the project;
•under the supervision of a line manager, preparing all necessary paperwork for project board and attending project board meetings to present the progress of the project;
•line managing junior members of the International Engagement team, as required; and
•working effectively with colleagues in the International Engagement Team to support the marketing and negotiation of the Museum’s international exhibition projects and the maintenance of excellent relationships with all internal and external stakeholders. In particular, liaising with the International Engagement Managers to support the preparation of proposals and the negotiation of loan agreements.

•Represent the Museum in discussions with existing and potential hosts about the content of exhibitions and/or the way in which exhibitions are delivered by the Museum.
•Take responsibility for certain exhibition projects and be the International Engagement Team’s internal expert for those exhibitions.
•Maintain a close working relationship with exhibition curators and acting as an internal advocate for the international touring exhibition programme.
•Maintain all international relationships at the highest possible level and adopt a diplomatic, tactful and professional approach at all times.
•Ensure that activities are carried out in line with the Museum’s strategic plan, particularly in relation to its international strategy.

Person Specification:

•Educated to degree level or equivalent
•Previously worked as a project manager and a demonstrable desire to work in the Museum/Cultural sector.
•Experience of: project management, working on international projects and budget management.
•An excellent communicator, both written and orally, with a sense of tact and diplomacy as well as an ability to influence people to achieve ‘buy-in’ to a project.
•Well organised, professional, an excellent team player and willingness to travel abroad.
