Learning & Participation Team Leader

Purpose of the role:

This exciting role will lead a team of Learning & Participation schools team demonstrators based at the Walker Art Gallery. The post holder will work closely with the Learning & Participation Managers to plan and deliver an inclusive, high quality programme for schools, families, early years, young people and adults both virtually and in person. This programme will develop knowledge, skills, educational attainment, cultural awareness and life chances. They will deliver an agreed number of timed educational sessions per week.

Main Activities

Reporting to Learning and Participation Manager, Schools you will:

Motivate and organise staff to deliver Learning & Participation programmes within the Walker Art Gallery and virtually.
To be part of an inclusive and people focused Learning and Participation team, providing fun, engaging, challenging and inspirational activities, resources and programming across our exceptional museums and galleries.
To contribute to the delivery of NML’s 2030 vision to engage over ten million people each year and all schools in the Liverpool City Region will visit at least one of our museums and galleries each year.

Duties & Responsibilities:


Build relationships with key team members within the Art galleries team and the Learning & Participation department.
Represent- Contribute to the management and development of the department by attending departmental meetings and communicate information to teams.
Provide information when requested to senior staff.
Support the Learning & Participation Managers to develop audience focused activity and events.

Problem solving and decision-making:

Act as a central point for information exchange for the Learning & Participation demonstrator team based at the Walker Art Gallery.

Staff Management:

Supervise and co-ordinate the Learning & Participation demonstrators and were requested volunteers/internships/apprenticeships/work placements.

Resource management:

Supervise the workload, areas of work, resources and responsibilities for the Learning & Participation demonstrator team reporting into this post.
Input financial data and visitor numbers into relevant reporting systems.

Expertise/Specialist Knowledge:

Knowledge of Learning and participatory practice within arts, heritage and schools.

Freedom to act:

Active participation in organisation team meetings and planning.
