Media Assistant

Can you bring our nation’s story to new audiences?

Domesday Book. Shakespeare’s will. Tweets from Downing Street. War time records. These are just some of the inspiring items amongst the 11 million held by The National Archives. With a collection like this – one of the largest in the world – we want to make sure that we promote it to as wide an audience as possible.
Responding to our Archives for Everyone business plan, we believe archives are for everyone because they are about everyone - past, present and future. As the living, growing home of our national story, our aim is to connect with the biggest and most diverse audience possible, in the most innovative ways we can.
To do this and fulfil our potential we must become the 21st Century national archive.

About the role
Working in the media team, your role will be to assist across a wide range of communication activities promoting The National Archives and raising awareness of our collection. You will organise press events, coordinate and facilitate broadcast and documentary filming, provide new in-house video content, manage the press team inbox, produce a daily media summary and act as the first point of contact for media enquiries.

About You
We are looking for someone with passion and initiative who can work on their own where necessary. You’ll have excellent communication skills and good organisational skills and enjoy working with and meeting new people. We need you to have some experience of working with film and video for promotion purposes and the ability to be part of a team organising events
Join us here in beautiful Kew, just 10 minutes’ walk from the Overground and Underground stations, and you can expect an excellent range of benefits. They include a pension, flexible working and discounts with local businesses (e.g. beauty salons and bars). We also offer wellbeing resources (e.g. on-site therapists) and have an on-site gym and shop.*

*All facilities subject to current Covid restrictions.
