York Museums Trust is an independent charitable organisation created to manage Yorkshire Museum & Gardens, York Art Gallery, York Castle Museum and York St. Mary’s. We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and organised individual with a passion for archaeology to transform our Archaeological Archive collections.

Based at the Yorkshire Museum and the off-site collections stores, the Assistant Curator of Archaeological Archives will support and assist the Curator of Archaeology in the development, management, care, and documentation of the Yorkshire Museum’s Archaeological Archive collections.

Acting as the main point of contact, and leading on archaeological archive administration, you will use your excellent communication skills to work closely with external organisations, ensuring that York Museum Trust’s Archaeological Archive Deposition Policy and Procedure is successfully implemented. You will utilise digital engagement strategies to share these collections with the public and facilitate access to them through documentation, digitisation and responding to access requests.

You will have a good knowledge of British Archaeology and experience of working with archaeological collections, including practical experience of documentation and collections’ care.

You will also have a sound understanding of the issues surrounding excavations and the deposition of archaeological archives and how these relate to the role.

As an organisation York Museums Trust is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce. We welcome applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
