Project Curator: ResearchSpace

A brand new role has arisen at the British Museum for a Digital Curator who can help enrich and communicate knowledge of cultural heritage collections using Web Technologies and databases. Situated in the department of Ancient Egypt & Sudan, and within the ResearchSpace team, the main objective of this role is to support specific curatorial research projects using an innovative and unique Web based research platform. While training will be provided, candidates will demonstrate relevant transferable skills that can be developed in parallel with the projects and respond to their individual needs.

You will work with other curators to understand and interpret their questions and support their investigations in a digital environment. This will include two flagship research projects – an archaeological project based on an Ancient site located in modern day Sudan and another working with contemporary time based art in collaboration with a leading London Art Institution.

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g. cultural heritage, information science, interaction design), the post-holder will previously have worked on projects with a research element and will have experience of working, transforming, visualising and presenting information.

The post requires experience with Web technologies (e.g. HTML5, CSS, JavaScript) and aspects of data science. Experience of (and interest in) working on a Semantic Web/Linked Data project is desirable.

We are looking for a confident communicator who enjoys working in interdisciplinary and specialist research delivering projects that increase our understanding of the past and have relevance for the present.
