About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting fundraising at the British Museum, ensuring we have the excellent data, systems and processes needed to build strong relationships with our supporters.

As Senior Database Manager (Fundraising), you will lead the management and development of our Raiser’s Edge (RE7) database and oversee the processes that underpin fundraising, Membership and Patron activity. Sitting within the Development department’s Strategy and Operations team, you will ensure our data is accurate, secure and well managed, enabling colleagues to make effective use of it for fundraising, stewardship, communications, reporting and decision-making.

This is an important time to join the Museum. As we embark on the Masterplan, one of the most significant cultural redevelopment projects in the world, you will help ensure that our database and wider CRM infrastructure are ready to support an ambitious new capital campaign and the future needs of a global fundraising department.

This role offers the opportunity to combine data leadership, people management and continuous improvement in support of the British Museum’s fundraising ambitions at a particularly important point in its future.

About you
You will bring:
• Demonstrable experience of working in a fundraising and/or Membership CRM environment, with experience managing a CRM database for fundraising purposes. Experience working with Membership modules in a CRM is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, ideally RE7.
• Strong people management skills, with the ability to lead, support and develop a small team and prioritise workloads effectively.
• Experience handling financial and non-financial data and developing robust, effective processes.
• Excellent knowledge of GDPR and data protection requirements, data security and relevant fundraising and financial industry standards.
• Experience of Gift Aid and income processing, alongside an understanding of direct debit processing.
• Advanced Excel skills and the confidence to work with complex data, mailing lists and selections.
• The ability to identify issues, troubleshoot effectively and develop practical solutions in collaboration with colleagues across different teams.
• A proactive and improvement-focused approach, with the confidence to recommend changes and take responsibility for implementing them.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities, projects and stakeholders while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with fundraisers and colleagues at all levels.
• The ability to provide clear guidance and training to database users, translating technical knowledge into accessible and practical support.

Key areas of responsibility
• Lead, develop and manage the Raiser’s Edge (RE7) database, maintaining high standards of data accuracy, security and integrity, while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, innovation and data cleansing.
• Lead and develop a small database team, setting clear priorities and ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of income processing, data selections, reporting and other key database activities.
• Oversee Development income processing, including pledges, donations and partnership income, Membership and Patron direct debits, Gift Aid claims and financial reconciliations.
• Deliver and oversee key data processes, including mailing selections and the production of accurate financial and non-financial information to support fundraising, communications and budgeting.
• Take a proactive approach to improving database processes and ways of working, identifying issues and opportunities and taking the lead in developing and implementing effective solutions.
• Develop and deliver training, guidance and ongoing support to colleagues, helping users to make effective and confident use of Raiser’s Edge for fundraising, Membership and events.
• Work closely with Information Services and external suppliers on systems management, integrations, security, troubleshooting, improvements and upgrades.
• Contribute to the Museum’s CRM improvement programme, including the potential future replacement of the CRM platform.

The Masterplan
The British Museum is undertaking its biggest transformation since its founding nearly 300 years ago. This physical and intellectual transformation includes large scale building and gallery transformation, new ways of connecting with audiences and different ways of working. As we look towards this exciting future, we remain guided by the words of our founder Hans Sloane - who dreamed of a museum connecting all arts and sciences, which would be accessible to everyone, everywhere.

Benefits
At the British Museum, we believe our people are at the heart of everything we do and have designed a benefits package that goes beyond the ordinary. Our full list of benefits can be found here, but we’ve outlined some highlights below:
• Free exhibition entry for you and guests, exclusive private views, ICOM and reciprocal museum access.
