About the role
The British Museum is embarking on one of the most significant cultural redevelopment projects undertaken anywhere in the world. Our £1 billion Masterplan programme will transform the Museum, from visitor experience to our permanent exhibitions and how we document our collections, while ensuring that our collections remain accessible to millions of visitors and future generations.
To help deliver this vision, we are seeking an experienced Masterplan Campaign Project Manager to play a pivotal role in enabling and coordinating a major fundraising campaign of national and international significance.
This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraising professional with strong project management expertise to work alongside senior leaders, philanthropists, campaign specialists and colleagues across the Museum, helping to build the systems, processes and momentum that will support the next phase of this transformational programme.
You'll join a collaborative and ambitious Development team and have the chance to:
• Work on a campaign of exceptional scale and significance.
• Collaborate with senior leaders, trustees and fundraising professionals.
• Develop innovative fundraising propositions linked to an internationally renowned cultural programme.
• Make a lasting contribution to the future of the British Museum and the millions of people who engage with it every year.
If you're a highly organised fundraising or development professional who enjoys bringing people, projects and ideas together to achieve ambitious goals, we'd love to hear from you.
About you
• Significant experience of working within fundraising operations, campaign management or development teams with an understanding of fundraising best practice and donor engagement.
• Experience supporting or leading major fundraising campaigns. Experience with capital project fundraising campaigns would be advantageous.
• Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills with the ability to analyse financial information quickly and accurately.
• Strong IT and financial literacy skills
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Experience delivering collateral for fundraising campaigns and donor packages and proposals.
• Experience of governance, reporting and stakeholder management in a complex environment.
• Able to prioritise effectively with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
Key areas of responsibility
• Provide project management leadership for the Masterplan fundraising Campaign, ensuring activity is aligned with strategic priorities, timelines and budgets.
• Coordinate campaign activity across philanthropy, corporate partnerships, events and operations teams.
• Drive campaign planning, reporting, governance and performance monitoring.
• Develop and maintain compelling campaign propositions, cases for support and donor materials.
• Support senior leadership, steering groups and trustees with campaign reporting and governance processes.
• Manage consultants and suppliers, ensuring delivery against campaign objectives.
• Work collaboratively across the Museum to identify funding opportunities and develop high-value fundraising propositions.
• Help establish effective ways of working across a large and complex stakeholder landscape.
The Masterplan
The British Museum is undertaking its biggest transformation since its founding nearly 300 years ago. This physical and intellectual transformation includes large scale building and gallery transformation, new ways of connecting with audiences and different ways of working. As we look towards this exciting future, we remain guided by the words of our founder Hans Sloane - who dreamed of a museum connecting all arts and sciences, which would be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
