About the role

Join the British Museum in this unique new role supporting the delivery of planned and operational hard and soft facilities management services, alongside the successful handover of projects from the Museum's Masterplan and capital programmes, while helping the Museum welcome approximately 6 million visitors annually. This is a crucial role involving close collaboration with senior stakeholders, supply-chain partners and support teams across the Museum.

As Head of Facilities Management Operations and Technical Services, you will lead the client-side FM Operations and Technical Services team, providing strategic support to the Head of Facilities Management and Workplace Services. You will drive operational excellence through the delivery of outsourced hard and soft FM services, ensuring buildings remain compliant, resilient, safe and fit for purpose. You will also act as the key liaison between capital projects and facilities management operations, ensuring effective project handover, aftercare, warranty management and integration into operational maintenance arrangements.

About you

* Significant experience leading hard and soft facilities management services within a complex operational environment.
* Strong knowledge of FM contracts, technical services, statutory compliance and building operations.
* Proven leadership, stakeholder management and team development skills.
* Experience managing outsourced service providers, performance standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Able to work effectively within a fast-paced environment and provide support across multiple Museum locations when required.

Key areas of responsibility

* Lead the client-side Operations and Technical Services team, ensuring FM services support Museum operations and strategic objectives.
* Manage FM service performance, contracts, budgets and operational risks, promoting continuous improvement and value for money.
* Build effective relationships with FM providers and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality, integrated service delivery.
* Oversee compliance, health and safety performance, audits and operational resilience across the estate.
* Act as the key link between capital projects and facilities management, ensuring successful project handover, aftercare and ongoing maintenance arrangements.

The Masterplan

The British Museum is undertaking its biggest transformation since its founding nearly 300 years ago. This physical and intellectual transformation includes large scale building and gallery transformation, new ways of connecting with audiences and different ways of working. As we look towards this exciting future, we remain guided by the words of our founder Hans Sloane - who dreamed of a museum connecting all arts and sciences, which would be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
