Safety Coordinator

Can you help us keep our museums safe, open and inspiring for everyone?

The Science Museum Group encompasses the Science Museum, the National Railway Museum, the Science and Industry Museum, the National Science & Media Museum, Locomotion and the Science and Innovation Park; making us the world's greatest alliance of science museums.

Across our sites, our Safety and Resilience teams play a vital role in ensuring our buildings, collections, colleagues and millions of visitors are protected every day. By developing and maintaining robust health, safety, safeguarding and security practices, they help create environments where people can explore, learn and feel welcome.

We're now looking for a Safety Co-ordinator to join us on a permanent contract, based at the National Railway Museum in York, working across the wider Science Museum Group Safety function.
This is an important role supporting the delivery of our Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Resilience and Security strategies, helping ensure consistent, high-quality safety practice across all sites.

About the Role

As a Safety Co-ordinator, you'll provide essential administrative and coordination support to the Safety team, helping colleagues across Health & Safety, Security and Resilience deliver their work effectively.
You'll support the scheduling and tracking of audits, helping ensure actions are completed and compliance is maintained. You'll also assist with monitoring the security contract, supporting reporting processes and helping to implement consistent procedures across the Group.

A key part of your role will be producing clear and accurate reports, including statistical information for committees, boards and external reporting requirements. You'll also help monitor training completion, support the development of new training resources, and contribute to improving how safety learning is delivered across the organisation.

You'll assist with budget and supplier administration, support tender processes, and help manage departmental assets. You'll also play a role in maintaining Safety & Security communications, including updating intranet pages and sharing key information with colleagues across the Group.

This role may also involve supporting incident response and business continuity arrangements, helping ensure we remain prepared and resilient in the face of unexpected events.

About You

You'll be highly organised, proactive and comfortable working across multiple priorities in a busy environment. You'll have strong experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and be confident working with data to produce clear, accurate information and reports.

You'll bring experience of coordinating information for communications such as newsletters, intranet updates or reports, with strong attention to detail and the ability to make complex information easy to understand.

You'll be confident managing competing deadlines, prioritising your workload effectively, and responding flexibly to changing needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

You'll ideally have experience working with committees, producing papers or minutes, and supporting structured reporting processes. Above all, you'll bring a collaborative, values-driven approach and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment.

Don't feel you meet every requirement? We still encourage you to apply. Your transferable skills could make you the right fit for this role or other opportunities across the Science Museum Group.
