Digital Interpretation Producer (FTC until March 2029)

Do you love bringing stories to life through digital and AV exhibits and experiences? Can you lead complex digital work packages to engage diverse audiences and inspire curiosity across our northern museums?

About us

The Science Museum Group are here to Inspire Futures. As part of this world-leading group of museums, the Digital Experience team (working within our Public Programming department) are responsible for the development and delivery of the digital and audio-visual interpretation elements and experiences within Exhibitions and Masterplan gallery projects.

About the role

As a Digital Producer within Digital Experience team, you will be responsible for project managing the creative and technical development of AV and digital experiences for a major new permanent Gallery at the Science and Industry Museum, Manchester. You will be working with the project team, designers, developers, architects, and contractors to ensure that the AV, interactives and digital exhibits are robust, creative, engaging and connect with our diverse audiences.

This role is a fixed term contract until March 2029, advertised for 35 hours per week working Monday to Friday and being based at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester.

Please note: this role is advertised as [Digital Interpretation Producer] to reflect the nature of the work, but the official job title within our structure is Digital Producer.

About you

We're keen to hear from candidates who bring solid project management experience delivering high-quality digital and AV experiences in public spaces, ideally within an exhibition, gallery, or visitor attraction context. You'll have experience leading projects end-to-end - from briefing and commissioning through to installation, snagging, and handover - and you're skilled managing contractors, agencies, and technical partners to deliver on time, on budget, and to a high creative and technical standard.

Experience of working iteratively, including prototyping and testing ideas with audiences before final delivery, is something we'd particularly like to see. Just as importantly, you bring a creative understanding of digital storytelling and audience engagement, with an instinct for how AV, interactives and emerging creative technologies can bring narrative and ideas to life for diverse audiences. You're an effective collaborator who enjoys working closely with content, curatorial, design, and technical teams, and you're comfortable holding the bigger picture across multiple stakeholders.

A background in science communication or interpretation, or experience producing content (rather than commissioning artistic work), would be important - as would practical experience with video, audio, or creative technologies. Above all, you'll share our commitment to inclusive working and to making our exhibitions accessible, engaging, and educational for everyone.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
