Preventive Conservator

Reporting to the Preventive Conservation Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to the wider conservation programme by minimising risks to physical collections in storage, transit, display, and use. The role involves providing expert advice, guidance, and support to promote best practice and enhance the longevity, stability, and accessibility of collection items.

As part of the Preventive Conservation team, the post holder will support key work programmes, including disaster preparedness, collection care awareness training and coaching, quarantine procedures, pest management, and environmental and dust monitoring.

This is an opportunity to work within a busy and collaborative team, engaging with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders across the Library. The role offers access to a remarkable and diverse collection and plays an important part in embedding a culture of collection care and best practice. Strong communication skills are essential.

The ideal candidate will hold a degree—or have equivalent experience—in Preventive Conservation. They will bring experience from a relevant heritage context, with a solid understanding of risk management principles and experience in developing and implementing policies, processes, and procedures.

Working closely with colleagues in the Preventive Conservation team, the post holder will also help ensure effective collaboration between the Conservation departments at St Pancras and Boston Spa, Yorkshire.
