Membership & Fundraising Assistant

We’re looking for someone proactive, organised, and with strong attention to detail to join the Horniman’s Fundraising Team to ensure an excellent experience for the individuals that support our vital work.

The Membership and Fundraising Assistant helps support the successful operation of the Horniman’s individual giving schemes, primarily focussed on the popular Membership scheme. This includes administration, communications and supporting campaigns and exclusive events.

The role will support generating vital income to the Horniman Museum and Gardens through efficient database management, financial processing, the delivery of appealing events and benefits, and promotional communications. Fundraising is part of the Communications and Income Generation Directorate which also comprises marketing and communications, digital, visitor services, event programming and commercial activities.

Membership (65%) and Individual Giving (30%) responsibilities

● Taking enquiries via phone and email, and assisting with event bookings and confirmations
● Processing and recording membership sales including in person, phone and online, as well as gift memberships
● Scanning and uploading applications to individuals’ records for Data Protection and Gift Aid purposes
● Supporting the Membership Manager on successful member recruitment and retention campaigns and activities.
● Supporting the Fundraising Officer (Individual Giving and Corporates) on successful Benefactor & Patron retention and prospect research.
● Assisting with the preparation, delivery and recording of the monthly Direct Debit run
● Records management procedures such as processing cancellations, data checking and cleaning, and archiving
● Supporting all individual giving communications including monthly membership newsletters, the annual membership survey, Benefactor updates and seasonal lists such as Christmas cards and event invitations.
● Assisting with the planning and running of member and fundraising events as required
● Supporting all individual giving reporting requirements such as preparing data for membership monthly figures, trustee reports and running ad hoc reports as required.

General responsibilities and administrative responsibilities (5%)

● Support prospect research as required
● Support colleagues to keep Fundraising records up to date and accurate as required
● Act in a professional manner and uphold the Horniman’s Code of Conduct
● Follow and promote safe systems of work and observe health and safety regulations
● Any other duties that may be required to ensure the effective running of operations.
