About the role
The British Library is seeking a skilled Project Manager to play a key role in delivering the transformational Library Services Systems Programme.
In October 2023, the British Library was subjected to a cyber-attack, which had a significant impact on our ability to deliver services. This ambitious programme is implementing a suite of strategic library service systems to modernise legacy platforms, most of which were destroyed by the cyber-attack. Our goal is to introduce efficient, strategic, and sustainable library systems that safeguard our collections and strengthen discovery and access.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day management and quality assurance of projects, working closely with the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) and Senior Programme Manager to keep delivery on track. You’ll bring together the right people, inputs, and resources, building strong relationships across stakeholders to make things happen.
You’ll create clear, high-quality project documentation aligned to the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office framework, from initiation through to closure, and keep everything running smoothly by managing cost, scope, timelines, risks, and benefits within agreed tolerances.
You’ll also communicate progress with clarity and confidence, engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, and take the lead on managing project budgets to ensure strong financial control throughout.
This fixed-term contract runs until March 2029. The role offers the opportunity to work on an innovative programme that will transform the way the Library delivers its services. Regular travel between our St Pancras (London) and Boston Spa (West Yorkshire) sites may be required.
If you are passionate about delivering transformational projects that make a real difference and want to contribute to the future of library services, we’d love to hear from you.
