About the Senior Registrar role:

Working across National Museums Scotland's diverse collection of over 12million objects and specimens, you will lead the Registrar team and be responsible for the strategic development, planning, management and delivery of Collection Registration for the National Museums Scotland. You will lead on the outgoing loans programme, as well as acquisitions and collections review. You will develop the registrar specialism, delivering consistent standards of collections care and management across National Museums Scotland collections.

As a Senior Registrar at National Museums Scotland you will:

• Manage, lead and be responsible for the Registrar section, motivating, developing and directing staff to deliver an excellent service and achieve departmental and organisational objectives

• Develop, review, implement and deliver effective business systems, processes and procedures for collection registration, ensure legal and regulatory compliance in these areas

• Develop, review and implement long-term, strategic plans to effectively manage 'legacy' issues within the section including loan, acquisition and disposal backlogs

• Manage indemnity cover for all loan objects, including reporting and forecasting.


Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Senior Registrar:

• Substantial experience delivering collection registration activities (loans, transport, insurance, acquisition, disposals, collections review etc) within a museum or similar environment
• Experience of managing projects involving multiple stakeholders and professional disciplines, including planning, risk management and delivery within time and budget
• Knowledge of national and international museum standards, guidance, and best practice relevant to collections registration
• Proven people management skills, including motivating, developing, and supporting specialist staff
• Excellent communication skills, including ability to prepare clear reports, guidance, and procedures for diverse stakeholders.
