Curator - Visual Documentation Project

What It's Like to Work Here

At IWM, we’re driven by a shared purpose: helping people understand conflict and how it shapes the world we live in. Our collections are central to that mission.

As a Curator you will join a diverse professional team united by a shared belief in the power of our collections, where expertise is valued and ideas are welcomed. You will work with and be supported by teams across Curatorial and Collections Care, with additional support from our wider museum teams.

Why this role matters

IWM holds some of the world's most significant collections relating to 20th and 21st century conflict. You will play a key role in improving the documentation and accountability of IWM's hazardous and licenced materials and medal collections, improving accessibility and meeting required standards. This is an opportunity to make a difference to how our audiences connect with these collections and the often deeply personal stories associated with them.

Core responsibilities

Ensure that all records meet inventory standards
Work with colleagues to standardise catalogue data to ensure it meets the needs of its users
Work with colleagues to identify items for potential review
Resolve object queries
Enhance existing content and historical information in the object records

How you'll work

You will attend regular meetings to report on and track progress made throughout the project and you will expected to work collaboratively and openly throughout.

What success looks like

By the end of the project you will have met or exceeded the project's data improvement aims
The collections will be fully accountable with increased accessibility
