Do you enjoy solving technical problems while delivering great customer service in a fast-paced, hands-on environment?
About us
Based on a 545-acre WWII airfield in Wroughton near Swindon, the Science & Innovation Park (SIP) is home to one of the world's preeminent collections of science, technology, transport, medicine and the media, housing more than 300,000 objects from the Science Museum's Collection. The site is made up of a number of hangars, purpose-built stores, large open areas, native woodlands, runways and one of the UK's largest solar farms.
Our ICT team plays a vital role in enabling the Science Museum Group to operate effectively across our sites, supporting both day-to-day activity and the delivery of key projects. We provide reliable, responsive and customer-focused technology services that help colleagues work efficiently and ensure systems and infrastructure remain secure, stable and fit for purpose. Working collaboratively across departments and with external partners, the team supports a diverse and evolving technical environment, combining strong technical expertise with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
About the role
Working as part of the ICT team, you will play a key role in supporting the Science & Innovation Park - the Science Museum Group's dedicated collections facility. Collaborating with colleagues across ICT and the wider organisation, you will deliver high-quality, responsive support across the site, helping to resolve hardware and software issues, assist with basic network configuration, and contribute to the delivery of infrastructure projects both within ICT and in partnership with other departments.
Alongside project work, you will provide day-to-day 1st and 2nd line support as part of the ICT Operations team, ensuring a reliable and efficient service for users across the site. This is a varied, hands-on role that requires a proactive approach, strong communication skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
Please note, internally this role is known as "ICT Junior Solutions Engineer". This position is offered as a fixed-term contract until September 2026, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and is based on site at the Science & Innovation Park.
About you
We're keen to hear from proactive, customer-focused ICT professionals who thrive in fast-paced, service-led environments. You'll bring experience working on a service desk, confidently handling and prioritising user issues while delivering a responsive, high-quality support service.
With a solid foundation in desktop support within a Windows 11 environment, you'll have hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and basic networking issues, including exposure to network configuration. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are key, as you'll collaborate with colleagues, contractors, and third-party suppliers to deliver effective solutions. You'll be detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and take a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Just as importantly, you'll be values-driven, with a genuine commitment to contributing to an open and inclusive organisation and a desire to continuously learn and grow within a dynamic ICT environment.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
