Collection Registrar

Collections Storage Project
The V&A is beginning a two-year project to review our stored collections. This includes improving collections documentation, care, and accountability, reorganisation of offsite and onsite storage, and a review of long-term and historic loans.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Collection Registrar to join this exciting project. Working in close collaboration with Curators and the wider Project Team, the Collection Registrar will play an important role in the review and maintenance of the programme of long-term loans into the V&A collection.

The Collection Registrar Role
This role will sit within the Loans Section, reporting to the Head Registrar in the Exhibitions and Loans Department. The Loans Section manages centrally the V&A generous loans programmes and is responsible for compliance with ethical standards and statutory regulations as they relate to the management of the V&A’s collections and third-party loans-in to the Museum.

Ideally, you will have experience managing incoming and/or outgoing loans with museum collections, as well as direct experience arranging transport for museum objects, including knowledge of import and export requirements. You will have a sound knowledge of the UK Government Indemnity Scheme and commercial insurance. Thorough understanding of the national and international museum standards for packing, handling and environmental requirements for the safe movement of museum objects, and best practice regarding security, display, and storage of museum collections are also key for this role.

You will demonstrate ability to prioritise a high workload and successful delivery to tight deadlines. A confident, articulate and persuasive communicator, you will develop close working relationships with colleagues across the Museum, lenders and other external stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the V&A and make a real impact in making its collections accessible to all.

Closing date for applications is 29th March 2026, with interviews expected to be in the w/c 13th April 2025.
