About the role

The British Museum is looking for an exceptional Events Manager with experience in museum, heritage and/or arts environments to join our Events team and play a central role in planning and delivering world‑class Museum-hosted and external events. You will take the lead on delivering high‑level, strategically important events and manage relationships with sponsors and corporate members, ensuring their events are delivered seamlessly and to the highest standard.

You will help support the events around the Bayeux Tapestry and British Museum Ball, working closely with internal departments to ensure a seamless delivery. The main priorities over the next year will include organising events for our corporate clients in relation to the Bayeux Tapestry. In addition, you will support with other major internal events such as exhibition openings, Director’s Dinner, Trustee’s Dinner and more.

You'll act as an ambassador for the Museum - collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, protecting the building and collection, and ensuring every event meets the Museum's exacting standards.

Key areas of responsibility

Museum-Hosted Events:

* Lead and support on the planning and delivery of large‑scale internal Museum events, often involving complex logistics, ensuring these are within agreed budgets and financial procedures.
* Produce detailed briefing packs, manage event schedules, and ensure all preparations meet operational, security and curatorial guidelines.

External & Corporate Events:

* Manage and support new business development and day‑to‑day relationships with key corporate members and sponsors, including advising on event style, logistics and access.
* Host VIP guests, including diplomats and representatives from partner organisations.

Process, Systems & Compliance:

* Review and improve event processes and systems alongside the Head of Events.
* Create comprehensive risk assessments and ensure contractor compliance.
* Maintain accurate financial and administrative records across shared Museum systems.

Team Leadership:

* Support and guide Events Coordinators and Assistants in the delivery of their events.
* Brief and manage security, visitor services, stewards and contractors during events, ensuring clarity, consistency and safety.

About you

* Proven experience managing venues and large‑scale, high‑profile events, ideally in a museum, heritage or arts environment.
* Strong client management skills, ideally with corporate partners and an understanding of global corporate markets.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
* Solid budget and project management experience with acute attention to detail, ideally with experience using Raiser's Edge or similar CRM systems.
* Strong negotiation, diplomacy and communication skills, able to present to and communicate with a wide range of people.
* Flexible and able to work collaboratively under pressure.
