Salary: £34,320 per annum

About the role

As Digital Manager, you will help drive our ambition to be digital by default across our organisation. You will lead the development and delivery of digital platforms and initiatives that enhance audience access, improve operational efficiency and generate income.

A key focus of the role will be the operational leadership and creative programming of our new Virtual Reality and XR gallery. You will oversee immersive experiences from commissioning and technical delivery through to performance evaluation, ensuring they are high quality, accessible and commercially sustainable.

You will also act as our in-house authority on digital standards, licensing and rights management. Working across departments, you will establish clear frameworks to ensure best practice in digital governance, intellectual property compliance and content management.

Collaboration will be central to your success. You will work closely with our Collections and IT teams to drive digital innovation, embedding new tools and technologies that expand access to our collections. You will play an important role in our Dynamic Collections programme, supporting our ambition to make significant parts of Birmingham’s museum collections available online.

This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You will manage budgets, oversee digital platforms including our website and DAMS, and contribute to major organisational projects as part of the Digital, Brand and Marketing leadership team.

About you

You will bring:

• Experience delivering complex digital projects with multiple stakeholders

• Confidence working with emerging technologies, ideally including immersive or interactive experiences

• Strong understanding of digital governance, licensing and rights management

• The ability to translate technical concepts into clear organisational practice

• A collaborative approach and a passion for widening access to culture

Most importantly, you will be motivated by the power of digital to create belonging, trust and meaningful connection.

Why join us

This is a rare opportunity to shape digital innovation across a major cultural organisation at a time of transformation and ambition. You will work with exceptional collections, historic venues and passionate colleagues, while helping to define the future of digital engagement in Birmingham.
