About the role

The British Museum is hiring a Senior Programme Manager to lead the delivery of the Energy Centre Programme. This is a major sustainability project within the Grade I listed building. You'll oversee all aspects of planning and delivery, including enabling works and business-as-usual projects, ensuring integration with other museum-wide programmes.

This role involves managing internal teams and external partners, driving progress to time and budget and maintaining compliance with statutory requirements. You'll report at the highest level, lead risk management and build strong stakeholder relationships, playing a key part in shaping the future of the Museum's estate.

About the project

The successful candidate will lead on the oversight and delivery of the Energy Centre Programme, which is one of the most innovative energy projects underway in the sector. The Energy Centre Programme is about to begin construction which will see the replacement of the Museum's gas boilers with air and water source heat pumps, alongside the renewal of all primary services infrastructure across the complex site.

By completely overhauling our existing infrastructure, and replacing it with state-of-the-art facilities, the Energy Centre Programme will dramatically reduce our carbon footprint. It's an incredibly important step that paves the way to our becoming a net zero museum in the future.

About you

* Experienced in managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects within heritage, construction, or infrastructure environments.
* Skilled at integrating multiple workstreams, resolving dependencies, and presenting clear recommendations to senior governance bodies.
* Deep understanding of statutory requirements (e.g., CDM 2015, Building Safety Act) and robust project management standards.
