Do you have a passion for film heritage and the magic of projection?
About us
The National Science and Media Museum is home to Bradford's only independent cinema, featuring three screens including Europe's first IMAX. We can screen most formats, including 35mm and 70mm, and are the only venue in the world to publicly show Cinerama in both digital and print formats.
Our vast and diverse collection of prints includes many rare works, and we have a dedicated strategy to make our collections more accessible for everyone to experience.
Working in partnership with The Projected Picture Trust in Halifax, we are seeking a Film Archive Projectionist to research films in our collections, test prints, and help develop a new cataloguing system. The overall goal is to curate our film collection into a meaningful offer for audiences.
This role is 20 hours per week, based on site, on a fixed-term basis until October 2026.
About the role
As Film Archive Projectionist, your contributions will be vital to the project's accomplishments. You will research films in the collection, evaluating their condition, and making sure that essential details are accurately recorded using new systems and processes.
Working closely with teams across Bradford and Halifax, you'll document the project, share discoveries, and collaborate with the Screen team to recommend films for potential inclusion in a curated screening programme.
About you
You'll bring projection experience, whether from a cinema, archive, or other creative setting. You'll need to be comfortable working alone in an archive setting , be able to take initiative and organize your own workload as well as work with the wider cinema teams.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
