About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced heritage professional to lead the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) in England. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of public archaeology and heritage protection, working closely with a wide network of local partners, national advisers, and international collaborators.

As Head of PAS, you will manage the delivery of the Scheme across 33 areas, providing strategic direction to a team of National Finds Advisers, Finds Liaison Officers, assistants, interns, and volunteers. You will also oversee the administration of the Treasure Act 1996 in England via the British Museum's Treasure Registry, ensuring the process is efficient, transparent, and aligned with best practice.

About You

You will be a skilled leader with a strong background in archaeology, heritage management, or a related field. You'll have experience managing complex programmes, working with diverse stakeholders, and advocating for heritage protection. A deep understanding of the PAS and Treasure Act 1996 is essential, along with excellent communication and organisational skills.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of public archaeology in England. You'll be part of a passionate team committed to preserving and understanding a shared heritage, while engaging communities across the country.
