Role Purpose:
The National Portrait Gallery hosts approximately 150 ‘out of hours’ events per year. This includes a number of internal events, corporate partner and sponsor bookings and private venue hires.
Reporting to the Head of Events, the Events Sales and Marketing Manager will be responsible for maximising sales of the public spaces for events, meeting ambitious sales targets through the design and delivery of a Commercial Events sales and marketing plan.
The Events Sales and Marketing Manager will play a key role in maximising unrestricted income growth at this crucial time for the Gallery.
Key Accountabilities:
- Receive, oversee and analyse incoming enquiries by phone and email, ensuring clients are responded to in a prompt and efficient manner, and convert enquiries to confirmed events by promoting the NPG as an events space.
- Take on an ambassador role for events in the Gallery, seeking out new partners and clients in a proactive and strategic manner.
- Being mindful of the Gallery’s brand, availability and policies and procedures, assess client and event suitability. Working with the Prospect Researcher and Head of Governance to assess potentially complex enquiries.
- With the Head of Events develop and implement the marketing plan, and leading on agreed sales and marketing initiatives as required.
- Manage the marketing budget, ensuring that marketing events provide value for money and maximise a return on investment.
- Work with the Gallery’s approved supplier lists to implement new business development initiatives and to maximise the reach to their networks, whilst promoting up-sells offered by suppliers where appropriate.
- Actively promote the National Portrait Gallery venue hire facilities and attraction as a commercial venue in order to secure events suited to the brand, and to build and maintain a high calibre reputation and premier position in the events marketplace.
- Administer the space booking system (Artifax) to optimise use of available space, taking decisions on the best use of space by liaising with the external and internal departments which utilise the spaces.

Professional Expertise and Experience:
- Previous event sales experience is essential, preferably in a unique venue
- Proven experience of sales and marketing, to include experience of negotiating
- Proven track record of business development, strategic planning and building a pipeline of prospects
- Experience of working within defined brand guidelines
- Strong IT and digital media skills
- Strong financial and commercial acumen
- Knowledge of the events industry and industry suppliers
- Experience using a diary management system
