Senior Client Project Manager (Base Build) - First Light

About us

Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. Each of these sites has a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts our people at the core of its success.

The role

Working within the Major Projects team, the First Light Senior Client Project Manager will manage the delivery of the base build, retail, catering and Planetarium refurbishment workstreams from the client side, acting as point of contact for internal and external stakeholders and contractors for First Light - an ambitious capital project to transform the visitor experience at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. The postholder will ensure that the Museum’s values and ambitions are at the project’s core, quality is to agreed standards and that best value for money is achieved.

Key elements of the role involve collaborating with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to refine or define objectives, scope, and deliverables for workstreams; develop and refine detailed project plans including budgets, expenses, and resource allocation; and work with the internal teams to minimise disruption and risk to visitors and operations during the construction phase.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships; an understanding of museum operations, exhibitions, and collections management; and proven budget management and financial acumen. A collaborative and team-oriented approach to work is essential, as well as problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

This is a full time, fixed term role for 3 years or upon completion of First Light in Band 3 - Senior Management. Core hours of work will be 36 per week, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with an additional hour to be worked as agreed upon with management, although due to the nature of the role, some flexibility may be required.
