Stakeholder Data Manager

About the role:

The British Museum is embarking on one of the most significant cultural redevelopment projects undertaken anywhere in the world. The Masterplan will transform the Museum for the 21st century while staying open, maintaining the founding commitment to keep the collection safe and accessible to the public for generations to come.

In this pivotal role within the Development department and across the wider Museum, you will serve as the authoritative expert on stakeholder data. Working closely with the Head of Stakeholder Data and Fundraising Intelligence, you will lead the design, governance, and strategic implementation of the Museum’s stakeholder data framework. Your responsibility will be to ensure that the Museum’s data infrastructure, processes, and compliance mechanisms are robust and aligned with data protection legislation, supporting the Museum’s ambitious fundraising and engagement goals.

Beyond maintaining compliance with regulations such as GDPR, you will strategically leverage stakeholder data to inform critical decisions around invitation strategies for high-profile events, stakeholder engagement, and the achievement of institutional priorities. This role holds significant strategic influence, shaping guest list policies, advising senior leaders, and delivering training to teams throughout the Museum to embed best practices in data-driven engagement. Additionally, you will champion a culture of excellence in data stewardship, particularly focusing on optimizing how data is collected and used for event invitations and wider engagement activities.

Key areas of responsibility:

- Design and deliver strategic nomination and invitation approaches for the Museum’s event calendar in collaboration with the Head of Stakeholder Data & Fundraising Intelligence, aligning with fundraising and engagement goals.
- Lead on guest list strategy for high-profile events involving Trustees, major donors, and high-net-worth individuals, using audience personas to tailor invitations and optimise engagement.
- Advise and support cross-department teams — including Development, Events, Curatorial teams, and the Director’s Office — on best practice in stakeholder data management, invitation processes, and data protection compliance.
- Oversee nominations and invitation workflows, ensuring consistency, data accuracy, and effective stakeholder prioritisation to support strategic engagement.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across the Museum to embed institutional priorities into event planning and invitation strategies, fostering cross-team alignment.
- Lead on audience segmentation and analysis, developing and refining personas to drive insight-led stakeholder engagement.
- Manage and support the Stakeholder Data team, providing leadership, performance management, and promoting a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective processes, while keeping data practices ahead of regulatory changes and sector standards.

About you:

- Degree or equivalent experience
- Expertise in managing complex stakeholder data and gust lists for high-profile events
- Demonstrated experience in managing stakeholder data for strategic event planning with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Experience in making decisions that directly impact high-profile events and their coordination
- Proficiency in CRM systems for managing and analysing stakeholder data, ideally you will have experience with Raiser’s Edge
- Experience with process improvement and strategic planning with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Excellent organisational, administrative, and communications skills with keen attention to detail and able to work under pressure managing multiple projects with tight deadlines
