Digital Exhibits Technician

Do you enjoy solving technical challenges and have an interest working with interactive exhibits?

Would you find satisfaction collaborating within a diverse team that prioritises creativity, inclusion, and practical solutions?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) encompasses the Science Museum, the National Railway Museum, the Science & Industry Museum, the Science & Media Museum, Locomotion and the Science and Innovation Park. Making us the world's greatest alliance of science museums.

The Technical Services department provides technical services across the Science Museum by maintaining digital/AV exhibits, providing technical services for events and supporting the build of new galleries and exhibitions.

To support this work, we are now looking for a Digital Exhibits Technician based at the Science Museum on a full time, permanent basis.

About the role

As Digital Exhibits Technician, you will work collaboratively with the team to ensure that galleries, exhibits, and presentation spaces are fully operational each day. You'll contribute to the ongoing development of interactive exhibits, support event activities, and provide technical advice and solutions within your area of expertise.

This role operates on a rotating shift pattern, including one weekend in every three and occasional early evenings. Standard shifts run from 07:30 to 15:45 on weekdays, with periodic rota weeks from 10:00 to 18:15. You will also work closely with other technical teams across the department, including electro-mechanical and fabrication specialists.

About you

By joining us, you'll bring experience working with a wide range of AV and related digital systems, along with in-depth experience in repairing diverse electronic equipment.

Your extensive knowledge of various operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and their software will enhance our welcoming environment by enabling meaningful interactions with our exhibition systems and visitors from diverse backgrounds, both technical and non-technical.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
