Interpretation and Content Manager

Can you help us to excite and engage visitors in our STEM focused exhibitions and live engagement programme?

About us

At Science Museum Group (SMG) we are here to inspire futures. Our vision is to 'think big' in the delivery of bold creative galleries and programmes, sharing authentic stories in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The Science and Industry Museum (SIM), part of SMG, explores how ideas can change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today. We are seeking an Interpretation & Content Manager (4 days) to play an integral role in our Public Programme team, to create relevant exhibitions and dynamic live engagement events, to engage visitors as we undergo a transformation of our historic museum site and collection displays.

About the role

As Interpretation & Content Manager at SIM, you will be a key creative driver for upcoming programmes and an audience advocate for visitor needs within the SIM Public Programme team. You will focus on developing and delivering compelling narratives, interpretation and interactives for exhibitions, as well as innovative concepts and content for associated live events including school visits, festivals and holidays.

Over the next few years, you'll help bring to life some of our most exciting upcoming themes, including:

* Space - a family-friendly holiday programme and exhibition linked to a BBC brand, inspiring curiosity about our universe.
* Manchester's Cotton Industry and the Legacies of Transatlantic Slavery - an exhibition with a dedicated schools programme and public events exploring the city's industrial past and its global connections.
* Manchester's Innovative Engines - events to celebrate the reopening of our iconic Power Hall after six years of redevelopment, showcasing the city's engineering heritage and future innovations.

These programmes will offer you the opportunity to collaborate with curators, designers, and creative partners, creating compelling, visitor-focused narratives and experiences that inspire diverse audiences to connect with STEM.

About you

Joining us, you will be able to communicate complex and big ideas in a creative and engaging way, with experience of developing, tailoring and delivering narratives. You'll be able to bring STEM to life in the creation of audience focused exhibitions and live events.

You'll have good communication and creative writing skills which can be applied across a variety of mediums for a range of readers, from museum visitors to internal and external stakeholders. You'll hold experience of working on exhibition development or event programmes, with a variety of stakeholders such as curators, designers and artists, to ensure visitor focused exhibition narratives, text and interactive development.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
