Project Assistant Archivist

About the role:
Working as part of the team responsible for the preparation of archival records for relocation. The Project Assistant Archivist will work on a project to document selected holdings from the Museum’s archive prior to moving by surveying, appraising, cataloguing and digitising records in accordance with relevant national and international standards, assessing preservation and conservation requirements and making recommendations for storage. The role will support the Project Archivist in delivering this piece of work to project deadlines driven by Museum strategic priorities, ensuring the security and preservation of the collection and endeavouring to maintain access where possible during the moves.

Key areas of responsibility:
• Support the Project Archivist in the preparation of archival records for relocation
• Appraise the relevant archival collections as directed by the Senior Archivist and Archivist
• Arrange and catalogue the selected Museum archive holdings in accordance with ISAD(G).
• Prepare selected items in the Museum archive for digitisation.
• Provide access to archival holdings in line with guidance.

About you:
• Degree in a subject relevant to the Museum’s collections, or equivalent experience
• Proven technical and professional information management skills
• Experience of handling fragile archive records
• Awareness and understanding of archive cataloguing standards
• Experience in a records management or archive context in a public or private sector organisation
