Are you driven by the art of storytelling and cultivating positive media partnerships? Are you energised by the chance to craft the public narrative of two unique visitor experiences?
About us
The National Railway Museum and Locomotion, part of the Science Museum Group, exist to inspire future generations with the past, present and future of railways. Through world-class collections, inspiring exhibitions and unforgettable visitor experiences, we share compelling stories of innovation and engineering with millions of visitors each year.
We are looking for a Press and PR Manager to join our Communications Team on a permanent basis. Working across the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon, you will be responsible for managing and delivering all press and PR activity.
From launching new exhibitions and managing major media enquiries, to delivering high-profile campaigns and working with one of the world's most famous locomotives, Flying Scotsman, this is a rewarding and exciting role. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Science Museum Group to tell authentic stories, build our reputation and raise awareness of our museums with audiences around the world.
This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Your home site will be the National Railway Museum, with regular travel to Locomotion.
About you
You'll have well-established media contacts and know how to use both traditional and digital platforms to secure wide-reaching and impactful coverage.
You'll be skilled at working efficiently, handling multiple priorities and acting as a trusted point of contact for the press, including during urgent or sensitive situations. Experience of managing media visits, press events and film crews will also be valuable.
Great communication skills are essential - you'll be comfortable writing impactful press releases, briefing spokespeople, and building positive relationships with journalists, colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
Most importantly, you will bring creativity, collaboration and a keen passion for sharing the unique stories of our museums.
What we offer
Working with a world-leading museum group that offers access to unique collections and experiences, you'll benefit from:
* Meaningful work - play a central role in inspiring the next generation through powerful storytelling.
* Career growth - enhanced support for professional development and opportunities to expand your skills.
* Work/life balance - 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays and flexible working policies.
* Health & Dental Insurance - extra peace of mind from day one.
* Wellbeing support - including access to an employee assistance programme and the Unmind app.
* Enhanced contributory pension - supporting your future financial security.
* Interest-free loans - for life events or home improvements.
* Great discounts - free entry to exhibitions, discounts in our shops and cafés, and access to other museums in the NMDC network.
Open for All is one of the Science Museum Group's five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to develop a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation, capable to continue to Inspire Futures.
