Do you enjoy making things happen behind the scenes to ensure visitors have an unforgettable experience? Are you interested in coordinating busy programmes, juggling rotas, and working with a wide range of people to bring ideas to life?
About us
Founded in 1857 and one of the world's leading science museums, the Science Museum aims to inspire visitors with its unparalleled collections of iconic objects and stories of incredible scientific achievement, reaching over three million visitors a year through award-winning exhibitions, galleries and exciting range of events and programming.
About the role
As Public Programmes Coordinator, you will provide a full range of administrative support for the Public Programme teams at the Science Museum. You will support the team in all aspects of administrating our activities and programmes, including minute taking, diary management, record keeping, stock control and financial management.
This is a 12-month fixed term contract, advertised for 35 hours per week working Monday to Friday in our Science Museum in London. Hybrid working is available in this role in line with the current hybrid working policy at Science Museum Group.
About you
We're keen to see applications from candidates who are highly organised and thrive in a busy, varied environment, where no two days are the same. The ideal person will have proficient administration skills, attention to detail when handling information and rotas, and the confidence to manage multiple tasks efficiently and professionally. Teamwork is essential, as you'll be collaborating with a wide range of colleagues, volunteers, and external partners, so we're looking for someone with interpersonal and communication skills who can build positive working relationships.
You'll also need to be a practical problem solver, able to make swift decisions and use your initiative to address unexpected challenges as they arise. If you bring experience working in museums, heritage, or education settings, coordinating events, or working with CRM systems and volunteers, that would be a bonus - but most importantly, you'll be values-driven, flexible, and motivated to help create an open, inclusive environment for everyone who visits and works with us.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
